Experience history in Leiden and discover the monuments that are open to the public.

Leiden has many historic churches that are well worth visiting. The Hooglandse Kerk is one of the most impressive churches. When you enter, your eye is led higher and higher by the lines of the Gothic, the enormous windows give an exuberant overwhelming light in the large space and it feels as if you have stepped into a painting from the Middle Ages. If the organ should be played as if Sweelinck were playing again, time would stand still for a while. The Hooglandse church is open to visitors from May to October.
