Hotel information
AED
The AED is located next to the main entrance (revolving door).
Baby cots
Baby cots can be arranged through reception. Please note that these will come with an extra charge.
Banks
ATMs are located in the city centre of Leiden and the nearby shopping centre Stevenshof. Please contact the reception for more information.
Bible
A bible is available in every room.
Bicycle rental
If you wish to rent a regular bicycle or e-bike, please go to the reception desk. We recommend early booking, due to limited availability.
Bicycle storage
For the convenience of our guests, the hotel has a lockable, well-lit and covered bicycle storage with a charging point.
Bill
We recommend settling the bill at the reception desk in the evening hours. In that way you will avoid delays during check-out the next morning.
Brasserie
Our brasserie is located next to the lobby. You can visit the brasserie for lunch (weekend), drinks and / or dinner. The menu contains various snacks and brasserie dishes.
The opening times will be announced at the entrance of the brasserie.
Breakfast
On Monday through Friday the breakfast buffet is served at our restaurant between 07.00h and 11.00h. On Saturdays and Sundays from 08.00h to 11.00h (from April to October from 07.00h to 11.00h). The costs are € 17.00 per person if you have booked breakfast together with your overnight stay; otherwise the costs are € 17.50 per person. For guests who do not spend the night at our hotel, breakfast is € 18.50 per person. If you wish to have breakfast in your room, please contact the reception desk, at the latest the night before until 22.00h. The surcharge is € 7.50 per person.
Brunch
Every Saturday and Sunday and on a number of public holidays we serve an extensive brunch buffet between 12.00h and 14.30h.
CCTV
We use CCTV for your and our safety.
Charging point for electric car
The hotel has a charging point for an electric car. It is located opposite the main entrance of the hotel, next to the bicycle storage.
Check in
On the day of arrival you can check in from 15.00h.
Check-out
On the day of departure, you are kindly requested to vacate the room at 11.00h at the latest. We would appreciate it if you could hand in the key card at reception. If you wish to stay longer, please contact the reception desk (dial 9). A surcharge will apply.
City centre
It takes 10 minutes by car to get to the beautiful city centre of Leiden with numerous restaurants, shops and ample nightlife. There is a local market on Wednesday and Saturday.

Connecting rooms
The hotel has a number of rooms in the basement that have a connecting door.
Diet/Allergies
Should you be on a diet or suffer from allergies, please notify the reception desk(dial 9). Our kitchen will gladly take your wishes into account, if these are made known in good time.
Disabled toilet
The restaurant has a disabled toilet that can be found at the toilet section within the main building. A lift is available as well.
Do not disturb
If you do not wish to be disturbed, hang the "do not disturb" card on the outside of the door. If the "do not disturb" card is hanging on the door, housekeeping will not enter your room to clean it. Housekeeping is however required to clean your room at least 3 times a week.
Early check-in
You can check in at 14.00h. If you wish to check in earlier, please make the request while booking your stay. The surcharge for an early check-in is € 35.00. Early check-in is subject to availability.
Electricity
The main voltage is 220V. Universal adapters can be purchased at reception.
Emergency
In case of EMERGENCY you can contact the reception by dialling the EMERGENCY NUMBER 555 on the telephone in your room or by using the emergency telephone in the corridor. In-house emergency service is present at all times.
Emergency exits
All emergency exits are clearly marked and they have emergency lighting. For your own safety, we advise you to orientate yourself upon arrival so that you can find the emergency exits in case of an emergency. On the inside of the door in your room you will also find a floor plan with escape routes.
Fire / calamities
What to do in the event of an emergency? At the hotel room door there is a floor plan with escape routes in the event of an emergency.
- Report the emergency as quickly as possible to the reception desk (dial 555)
- State who you are, what is going on, the location of the emergency
- Close doors and windows
- In the event of a fire, press the manual fire alarm (in case of misuse, € 250 will be charged)
Extinguish the fire with one of the fire extinguishers in the hallway.
Leave the building
- Leave the building via the escape routes as indicated on the map that hangs in the corridor at the door
- Never use the elevator. Follow the instructions given to you by the care provider (who wears a brightly coloured vest).
The large parking lot in front of the hotel will serve as meeting place unless otherwise indicated.
Fitness
The gym is located in the basement. All hotel guests can use our gym free of charge between 07.00h and 23.00h.

If you wish to order flowers, please contact the reception desk (dial 9).

General information
At the reception desk you will find information about our hotel amenities, various excursions to the surrounding area, cycling routes and hiking trails, cultural activities, a variety of excursions, church services, taxi, car rental, photocopies, printing, computers, adapters, umbrella, laundry and dry cleaning, bicycle rental, bicycle parking, etc.
Green Key
Our hotel has the Golden Green Key certificate. An international quality mark for organisations that operate sustainable within the tourism and recreation sector, and in the meeting and conference branch of industry.
Hotel Leiden is serious-minded with regard to sustainability and controllability is of the essence. If you put your towels back on the rack, housekeeping will not replace them. Only when you put your towels in the bathtub, they will be replaced. If you stay at our hotel for several nights, your linen will essentially not be changed. If you would like to see your linen changed, please use the appropriate card that can be found in the brochure box.
Hairdryer
Every room has a hairdryer in the bathroom.
Hospitality tray
All rooms have a hospitality tray. If used, housekeeping will replenish the tray on a daily basis.

Housekeeping
Housekeeping is on duty between 09.00h and 14.00h. Please, contact reception (dial 9), if you have any questions related to housekeeping.
House regulations
They can be looked into at the reception desk.
Iron and ironing board
Every floor has its own ironing board and iron. You are kindly requested to put them back after use.
Internet/Wi-Fi
Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel and on the terrace. Please, select the “Hotel Leiden” network, in order to get access. There is a public computer in the hallway to the hotel rooms, where you can use the internet. The computer does not require any login details.
Key card
You are kindly requested to hand in the key card at the reception desk upon your departure.
Late check-out
If you wish to use the hotel room after 11.00h and before 17.00h on the day of departure, we will charge € 35 to € 50. Late check-out is subject to availability.
Laundry / dry cleaning
We offer laundry/dry cleaning services. You will find a laundry bag and form in the wardrobe in your room. Please complete the form and put it in the laundry bag. If you hand in your laundry at reception before 09.00h, you can collect your clean laundry in the evening. The laundry is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
Liability
Management accepts no liability whatsoever for loss, theft or forgotten objects. We advise you not to leave any valuables unattended in the room.
Lost property
You can call the reception desk for lost or found items. Hotel Leiden cannot be held liable for the loss of your personal belongings.
Luggage
Trolleys for your luggage are at your disposal, at the reception desk. Please return them after use.
Mooring
If you wish to moor your boat, please contact reception. The number of available berths is limited.
Night porter
The reception is manned 24 hours a day and can be reached when you dial 9. From 23.00h only our main entrance is open. Should this be closed, you can check in by using the intercom next to the main entrance.
Packed lunch
If you would like to have a packed lunch, please contact the reception desk the day before and till 21.00h at the latest. You can enter your choice on the form that will be handed out by our reception staff members. On presentation of your receipt you can pick up your packed lunch at reception the next day. Please contact our reception desk for the latest rates.
Parking
Parking is free of charge in the hotel’s designated parking places. There are separate parking places for disabled guests. At the front is a second parking space. We kindly request you to keep the roads clear for possible emergency services.
Parking Leiden city centre
The Haagweg parking space (Stadsparkeerterrein Haagweg) is located on a 5-minute walk from the city centre and it has 750 parking places. This is the largest parking area in Leiden, from which free city shuttle busses run every couple of minutes to and from any location within Leiden’s city centre. Our hotel guests can purchase a day ticket at reception at a special rate.

- Van der Valk Giftcard
If you make use of advance payment, we regret to inform you that it is not possible to book additional amenities in the room. These must be paid for immediately. However, you can leave your credit card number as a guarantee at the reception and you can pay for everything at the same time on departure.
Pets
Throughout the hotel and restaurant, pets are NOT allowed, with the exception of guide dogs or service dogs. Dogs are allowed though on the terrace in summer, provided they are leashed.
Pharmacy/Doctor
If you need medical care during your stay, please contact the reception desk.
Photocopies
Reception can make a photocopy for you against payment.
Pillows and blankets
If you wish to have more duvets, pillows or clothes hangers in the room, please contact reception (dial 9). An extra pillow can be found in the wardrobe in your room.
Post
Outward post can be left and franked at reception. The hotel will see to it that your post will be sent. Incoming post addressed to you can be collected at reception.
Public transport
Bus number 43 will take you to Leiden Central Station and back. The bus stop is on the other side of the bridge / road. Please, contact reception for the current timetable.
Reception
The hotel’s reception desk is open 24 hours a day and contacted by dialing 9.
Refrigerator/minibar
All our rooms have a small refrigerator. The refrigerator is empty and can be used freely. A minibar box can be purchased at our reception desk.
Restaurant
The kitchen is open daily from 12.00h to 22.00h. Dinner reservations are required and can be made by contacting reception (dial 9). Our brasserie has a menu with snacks and brasserie dishes. You can order the brasserie dishes until 22.00h and snacks until 23.00h.

Please contact the reception desk for the latest room rates.
Room reservations
If you wish to make a room reservation for a future overnight stay while staying with us, we recommend that you let us know the day before departure. This will prevent any waiting time when checking out.
Room safe
We advise you not to leave any valuables unattended in your room. You can use the in-room safe for free. The safe has a combination lock and the user manual can be found on the outside of the safe door. We would like to point out to you that we are not liable in the event of loss of or damage to your possessions.
Room service
We offer room service at a surcharge of € 12.50 per order. Please submit your order to the reception desk. You will find the room service menu in your room. Unfortunately it is not possible to order just a drink through room service; our staff members at the brasserie or restaurant will gladly serve you. You can order from the room service menu from 17.00h to 22.30h There is no room service on public holidays.
Shoe-cleaning machine
A shoe-cleaning machine is situated in the hall, at the entrance to the hotel rooms.
Shop
There is a small shop in our reception area.
Smoking
Throughout the building smoking is prohibited. Smoking on the balcony of your room is allowed if you close the sliding door of the room. If you have smoked in your room, we will charge € 250 for cleaning costs.
Taxi
Upon request we will gladly arrange a taxi for you. Further information is available at our reception desk.
Technical department
If there are any defects in your room, we would be very grateful if you would inform our reception staff members.
Telephone
Please, dial 9 in order to contact our reception desk. Make sure you always dial 0 for an outside line. You can only make phone calls from your room, if you have left a credit card guarantee. You can always make a call to another room. The telephone number and the room number are the same; example: room number 101 has telephone number 101.
Terrace
Weather permitting, you can have your breakfast, lunch, dinner or drink on our terrace by the water.
Thermostat/Air conditioning
You can adjust the temperature in your room with the thermostat box on the wall.
Please ensure that your balcony door and / or window is closed and do not touch the regulator on the heater, please!
Tourist tax
All guests staying at our hotel must pay tourist tax. This amount has been determined by the Municipality of Leiden. Hotel Leiden turns the tax over to the municipality.
Vending machines (soft drinks, sweets & crisps)
Soft drinks, sweets and crisps can be found on the vending machine in the hall on the ground floor next to the stairwell. Please insert exact money.
Wake-up service
If you wish to make use of our wake-up service, please contact reception and pass on your room number and preferred wake-up time (dial 9).
Whirlpool
All our rooms in the basement and the suites have a whirlpool.
